Travel
Safely... Almost all types of personal property crimes are highest
in warmer months when people are away from their homes and apartments.
Your trip can be more pleasant if you take these steps:
Before you leave:
-
Decide how much money you can afford to spend on souvenirs
and gifts and stick to that amount.
-
Check your own car insurance policy. Many plans cover
non-business use of another car which means you can save money by
declining the damage waiver on a rental.
-
Get a list of ATM networks on which you can use your
Check or ATM Card.
-
Set money aside in a Credit Union account to get a
head start on paying charges you accumulate on credit cards during
your trip.
-
Buy traveler's checks; they are safer than carrying
cash.
-
Consider getting call forwarding for your phone. This
will automatically forward calls to another phone number where someone
will answer your calls.
-
Clean your wallet of essential non-travel papers,
such as Social Security cards and irreplaceable photos.
-
Train your office mates to say, "He/She will be in
the office on Monday," rather than "on vacation or "out of town."
During the trip:
- Don't keep cash or valuables in checked luggage or in hotel rooms.
Carry them on planes and use hotel safes.
- Purses containing cash should be carried strapped across your body
with a firm grip, not on one shoulder. Men should carry their wallets
in an inside pocket. Stay alert to what's going on around you.
- Don't advertise that you are a tourist. Place maps and travel brochures
in the glove compartment.
- Never pick up hitchhikers.
- Exchange American money for foreign currency at banks. You'll get
better rates there than at airports and hotels.
- Keep careful tabs on your plane, train or bus tickets. They're as
good as cash. Carrying them in an outside pocket or bag may be easy
for you to get to, but it's also easy for a thief to get to as well.
- Exchange foreign coins before leaving the country you visited since
US banks exchange only paper money.
- Returning one day before going back to work will leave you feeling
well rested.

Summertime is FUNtime
Whatever your plans for the summer, don't forget to think of your Credit
Union for money saving ideas for fun and travel!
- Don't leave home without the convenience and security of American
Express Travelers Cheques. Why bother with cash when AMEX Travelers
Cheques are accepted worldwide and can be easily replaced in case they're
lost or stolen?
- A Credit Union VISA Credit Card gives you peace of mind when traveling
"anywhere you want to be". With a 25-day grace period and a low interest
rate, a VISA Credit Card from the Credit Union makes your summer more
enjoyable.
- Whether you stay at home or are planning some time away, your Credit
Union ATM/Check Card gives you convenient access to your account. Get
cash at thousands of ATMs worldwide or make purchases with one convenient
card.
- Discount passes are available for area amusement parks such as Dorney
Park/Wildwater Kingdom, Hershey Park, Sesame Place/Busch Gardens, Six
Flags Great Adventure and get-away spots such as Ceasar's Pocono Resorts.
You can see that the first stop to make this summer is your Credit Union
for money saving (and fun) ideas! Call us for more information about any

Computer Conversion
North Penn FCU converted to a new data processing system on July 1, 2000.
The new system, CMC Flex, will allow us to better serve the financial
needs of our membership now and in the future. Members will receive their
first official statement from the new system at the end of the third quarter
(October, 2000). In as much as the Credit Union has made every effort
to make this conversion go as smoothly as possible, you may experience
a delay in handling transactions during the first few days of July. We
ask for your patience during this period as we adjust to the new system.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
